Gucci was founded in Florence as a leather goods manufacturer. The company entered the watch business in 1972 – first licensed Gucci watches 1997 – Gucci purchased Severin Montres, creating Gucci Timepieces Manufacturing moved to La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland Today Gucci watches are entirely Swiss-made. Unlike many fashion brands, Gucci owns its Swiss watch manufacturing company instead of simply licensing production.
